Swag is a catch-all term for free stuff, most often used to describe promotional items used in the marketing of entertainment such as music and movies. The term is believed to be an acronym for "stuff we all get."
As such, swag can mean anything from promotional CDs, concert tickets, movie posters, T-shirts, stickers, and hats, to the more grandiose gift bags handed out to luminaries at industry events like trade shows and awards ceremonies -- sometimes referred to as celebrity swag.
Depending on who you are, these "swag bags" can include everything from expensive jewelry or designer clothes, to meals, cars, or trips. Advertisers and marketers often jockey for positioning their products based on which celebrities endorse them by eating, driving, or wearing them.
Not surprisingly, the Internet has plenty of its own swag, which usually comes in the form of free stuff such as the music downloads found at places like swagworld. There are also numerous swag blogs out there for your surfing and swagging pleasure.
