What were known as the top 100 blogs in 1997 when the term blog was coined is quite a bit different from today. Blogs have evolved from small personal pages to major media entities in their own right. Technorati's own Top 100 Blogs listing has become one of the more cited blog ranking lists on the Internet.
Technorati's listing ranks blogs by a measure called Authority, which is the number of other blogs linking to a blog over the last six months. Links from a blog only count once, so even if a blog links another 100 times in six months, it will only count as one link towards Authority.
These days, the top blogs on this list can be considered major media sites in their own right, some with millions of unique users visiting monthly.
