The days of going to a dealer to see their lot of used cars isn't quite as common as it once used to be, but it still seems to be the preferred method for buying cars that were once driven by other people.
While the car industry has taken its lumps over the years, the secondary market continues to be strong. Consumers, armed with Kelley Blue Book or Edmunds information, can comb both real and virtual lots looking for the best deals possible. Some of the virtual locations offering automobiles in a buyer's area include sites like AutoTrader.com, Cars.com, and eBay Motors.
The industry itself was even lampooned in a 1980 movie starring Kurt Russell and directed by Robert Zemeckis titled appropriately enough, "Used Cars."
