Volleyball is a team sport developed in the United States in the late 1800s by William G. Morgan.
It is defined by the writers at Wikipedia as a "team sport in which two teams of six active players (five normal players and one 'libero'), are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points against one another by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules." In the Olympics, volleyball is played indoors.
Another variation of the sport, beach volleyball, has proved to be especially popular in the United States and in the Summer Olympics. In this game, teams of two battle each other in an outdoor sand pit. While the women's version of beach volleyball is more popular, the men's side has a movie lampooning the sport made in 1990 appropriately titled "Side Out."
