this is exactly the kind of action that a good representative should take. I am glad he represents me If this fine, outstanding citizen had read anything about the program, he would have realized that the $80,000 dollar limit had been suggested, but was not part of the bill that was up for a vote (from Sept 7) : “The president has been served wrong information about what our bill will do,” Grassley said Thursday between Senate votes. “There’s nothing in our bill that would do that. Overcoming the Veto on Children’s Health Insurance
“the plan would have provided coverage to children whose parents were earning as much as $83,000 per year, which are hardly considered "poor" people.” As Republican Senator Charles Grassley noted, “There's nothing in our bill that would do that. [The President’s] understanding of the bill was wrong." You can learn more about the President Bush’s misleading claim in this editorial.

deficit in an attempt to regain the support of fiscal conservatives. Playing politics is a matter of perspective and certainly not a valid reason to oppose a bill. Also, the bipartisan nature of this bill blows this entire argument out of the water. Senators Hatch (R) and Grassley (R) have come out with some stinging rebukes of this administration.

"And who is against Tiny Tim?"
Plus, he's simply wrong about making the issue of this bill a combination of cost and entitlement. Almost every serious examination of the GOP talking points - that it would attract high earners, pull kids out of private insurance and the like - has called them bogus. Republican governors (and mayors) want it. A wide swath of Republicans in Congress voted for it (in the Senate, the voting margin would override Bush's veto, so the only question now is in the House).

at the top of this post, which I borrowed from Les, points out that the 10 million children who would be covered by the SCHIP program would only cost the equivalent of 41 days’ worth of the wheelbarrows of cash being handed over to Halliburton. Even some Republicans are pissed off at him about this (particularly Susan Collins of Maine who is up for re-election and facing an opponent who might very well beat her). Motherfucker.
