going to do that in this blog, I realized that that only identifies the issue or the need. So, I have found an article that describes what some educators are doing to meet that need and I am going to include them in this blog as well. According to Richardson, our students should be: Orange=term and Richardson's definition, Green= my thoughts "Self-learners, who are able to navigate the 10 or 15 or however many job changes people are predicting for them by the time they are 30".

Turn Them On to Technology- Tuesday Blog

But Richardson, like so many others (including the author of this blog), fears that schools are not fostering this attitude. Richardson explains this fear and his own expectations of what students must become in his blog, "It's the Empowerment, Stupid" http://weblogg-ed.com/2007/its-the-empowerment-stupid/. Besides being "prosumers" as Tapscott describes them, Richardson coins several other labels (or "tags," in del.icio.us lingo) that upcoming generations must fit under: self-learners, self-selectors, self-editors, self-organizers, self-reflectors,

I couldn't wait until Monday and found myself wishing there were more days left with my students so I could

must be higher than ever before if we are to serve our communities well. I do not mean this in the context of standardized testing or any of its ugly stepsisters. I mean this in the context of personally guided exploration. Or, as Will Richardson put it a while ago, "It's the Empowerment, Stupid!" Teachers must take the reigns and begin to direct their own learning. While it would be easy to let an IWB sit in a classroom unused and complain about a lack of training, it is also lazy.

m allowed the special privilege of having my students create an electronic portfolio - which they then must burn onto a CD to put into the binder). Everyone fits into a white, 2-ring binder, right? Just like Will’s family gets such great use out of the weekly Friday Folder… So, I mentioned in a faculty meeting that a white binder full of paper may not be the most authentic way for our students to share their achievements with their parents. I have always known this but tonight it became clear………..you can never get to it all! Tonight I feel content that I got to SOME. It’s ok to just get to SOME. Tonight SOME of it was OK. Tonight SOME of it was really GOOD. Tonight SOME of it was GREAT! Sometimes you just have to set your counters to ZERO. Try it and let me know how it feels. Antes de pasar a una traducción libre del post original, me permito recomendar el planteo sobre los ríos de papel que son la comunicación entre la escuela y la familia, reflejando (además) un avance de la cultura de los abogados sobre las instituciones de enseñanza.
