Abby Johnson, who has gained fame for switching from director of a Planned Parenthood clinic to outspoken opponent of abortion, is taking on a new role as a guest blogger for an anti-abortion news service.

Johnson – who’s been referred to as today’s No. 1 enemy of abortion providers – will be one of the regular bloggers for LifeNews.com. The website says it reaches more than 500,000 international readers each week.

“Never in my life would I have believed I would one day be contributing to the most popular pro-life news source in our country,” Johnson said in a story posted on LifeNews.com. “I am very excited about the opportunity to write about issues that matter to me and also give others an insider’s perspective into the abortion industry.”

In 2009, Johnson resigned as director of the Planned Parenthood clinic in Bryan, Texas, following eight years as a Planned Parenthood employee and volunteer. Johnson said she had a change of heart about working for Planned Parenthood after assisting with an ultrasound-guided abortion, and ended up joining an anti-abortion group called the Brazos Valley Coalition for Life. It was the first time that Johnson had seen an abortion via ultrasound.

After Johnson’s departure, Planned Parenthood secured a temporary restraining order against her, fearing she was planning to disclose confidential information. Johnson denied the accusation. A judge later dissolved the restraining order.

Following her exit from Planned Parenthood, Johnson wrote a book, “Unplanned: The Dramatic True Story of a Former Planned Parenthood Leader's Eye-Opening Journey Across the Life Line.” She currently is chief research strategist for Live Action, an anti-abortion group known for its hidden camera videos shot at Planned Parenthood clinics.

“I firmly believe pro-lifers need to be fully engaged in all aspects of this movement: advocacy, outreach and ministry,” Johnson told LifeNews.com. “Utilizing a trustworthy news source like LifeNews.com is one way to find out what we can do to become better engaged in this battle for life. I look forward to providing information that will expose the myths and deceit sold to so many who are involved in our abortion culture.”

Planned Parenthood officials says abortions represent only 3 percent of the nonprofit organization’s health care services. Johnson and other abortion foes claim the figure is closer to 12 percent.

In an opinion piece published by The Hill, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, senior medical director of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, wrote that Johnson is perpetuating “long-standing, inaccurate myths about Planned Parenthood.”

“We understand that people’s views regarding abortion can change over time. However, everyone, regardless of his or her views, must stick to the facts," Nucatola wrote.
