Alyeska Spa & Ski: Part One

Despite what you may think, Alaska has very few ski resorts. Though it's land mass is equal to one fifth of the continental United States, the population hovers only around 675,000, and the main population center of Anchorage boasts only around 300,000. So having multiple resorts like you see in Colorado and Utah would be a losing venture.
While Alaska boasts some of the best heli-skiing in the United States, there is one shining gem of a land based ski resort, located just 27 miles outside of Anchorage: The Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, Alaska.

It's terrain is tailored more for the intermediate and advanced skiers, but if you are a beginner, or even non-skier, there is plenty for you to do - and that's what this blog is really about. First of all, the views alone make it worth the trip:

But there's a whole world of gourmet food, soothing spas, giagantic hot tubs and hoppy brews waiting for you at Alyeska, and I got the good fortune of being chosen to be your guide. Cue the play button!
In part two, we'll lounge in the biggest hot tub I've ever seen, get a quick lesson from a pro, and we'll go to "The Seven Glaciers" restaurant at the top of the tram for, wait for it, wait for it! King Crab Mac & Cheese! I have a feeling a line is already forming for part two.
Until we rub noses again!
