Bebo Making Power Moves to Bolster Growth
There are a slew of social networks out there and one of early ones was Bebo. The network boasts around 117 million registered users and 52.4 million active users. However, like other social networks, it has take a second-tier role in social networking to the king, Facebook.
Despite the marketshare that Facebook and others have garnered, Bebo is making moves to grow bigger.
Today, the company announced that Akash Garg and Aren Sandersen have joined the company in executive leadership roles.
Garg, named Bebo’s new Chief Technology Officer, is the co-founder, board member and was the original technical visionary CTO at hi5.com, one of the world’s most popular social gaming platforms. Under Garg, hi5 attracted more than 250 million registered members and became one of the most trafficked sites on the internet.
In his new role, Garg will lead a team of world class engineers and focus on new product development, site features, partner integrations and enhancing the user experience.
Also joining Bebo as VP of Operations is Aren Sandersen, former Director of Engineering at Oodle, a network of online marketplaces with more than 15M monthly unique users including the Oodle Marketplace and the Facebook Marketplace.
As Oodle’s first employee, Sandersen led Oodle’s launch and expansion over its first five years. Aren commands a deep understanding in the mobile arena with experience as a lead Software Engineer at Danger (acquired by Microsoft) and as co-founder of Appitzr, a leading interactive mobile application that gave out 10 million recommendations in four months. He also helped launch CoupRecoup: a marketplace for online coupons.
