China Lowers The Volume on The Voice of Social Media

It seems that the current world order is to silence the freedom of speech. People have a voice but are actively being discouraged in a variety of different ways from speaking aloud. Examples can be seen on a widespread level just by reading, listening to or watching the news.

China via The Communist party central committee has made a vow to intensify its control on social media and instant messaging tools. It is the highest-level official response to the microblogging in the country.

In a communiqué from the Communist party central committee, it follows what it considers to be “boldness” in the discussions of users on sensitive topics regarding scandals and the nation’s official business.

After the high-speed rail crash in Wenzhou unleashed a public outcry on microblogs about how the disaster was handled and its spilling out into the mainstream media, this response doesn’t come as a surprise.

China is known to have the world’s most sophisticated internet controls. However, censors have not been able to keep up with microblogging, until now.

This all of course is met with the predicted outcry over the freedom of speech apparently having some fine print attached to it.

Content is already being blocked and/or deleted from services. It is questionable as to whether censors will be able to keep up with the speed at which new content is being added. Censors will more than likely not be able to keep up with uses of euphemisms or homophones to refer to sensitive issues that are ordinarily not allowed to be discussed.

In an article in The Guardian, a microblogger wrote: “Good culture will all disappear if opinion keeps being guided.”

It has not been made clear what the punishment will be for breaking these laws being put forth by the Communist party.

Again, we have yet another example in which the freedom of speech is being stifled by those who have the biggest problems hearing the truth about their own major inequities.

We unfortunately live in a world where hypocrisy is the preferred method of leadership. Protesters are darted with tear gas in the United States at the Oakland “Occupy Wall Street” protests just for speaking aloud.

I thought the nation was called the People’s Republic of China, am I right?

I guess that name only applies to those who choose to exercise their rights to remain silent.
