Facebok Photos Get Bigger, Faster
Bigger, better, faster! Sounds like a Daft Punk song sampled by Kanye. Facebook began rolling out an update to their photo viewing app. Remember when it changes to the black pop-up box and either you or someone you know complained about it? Guess what – it’s changing again! The new interface will sport a white and grey color scheme with larger photos that load faster. How large and how do they load faster you ask? Read on.

When you click on a photo, it will now pop up to a size between 720 and 960 pixels. I am excited about this since I’m all about HD and life-like appearance via digital media. I am not sure the exact science behind the faster loading times, however, if you watch the image load, it renders in 2 steps. First, a super-pixelated version of the full size image appears. Then, a few milliseconds later it clears up to original megapixel or high definition quality.
Facebook claims that the white color scheme allows for more focus on the photo. It might be my color-blind eyes, but to me, the new white appearance makes it more difficult for my eyes to adjust and focus on the picture – separating the background from the foreground.
Prepare to see some changes and have fun with it! When users resist and complain about updates, they miss opportunities that might actually make the service more enjoyable.Source article
