Google+ Adds New Features, Facebook Ego Gets Smaller
Google has been hard at work bringing new features and functionality to not only Google+ personal accounts, but for Google+ Pages as well. In the latest of updates to roll for Google+, a few features deserve some praise from the Development team at Ye'Old Goog.
If you check your new Google Bar at the top of your browser (Chrome works best), you'll probably be familiar with the red Notifications box beside your logged in name. The box had updates, but didn't really organize them in a way that would allow you to see the updates or notifications you wanted. Now, with the new updates rolling out, the notifications appearing in red have "sneak preview" functions making it easier for you to check the updates you want faster.
Another update in your Google+ profile page is a 'volume slider' to adjust how often posts from that Circle are seen within your stream. If you care more about your 'Family' circle, you can turn the volume up, likewise, if you care less about your 'Music' stream, you can turn that down to reduce the amount of items appearing in your combined stream. To adjust the volume on any of your Circles, simply click on the Circle within the left side panel, and you'll then see the slider at the top of the posts stream.
If all these updates aren't enough for you still, they even went ahead and added new Lightbox improvements in the UI to make it easier to use and view photos. The enhancements include smoother tagging within photos, and a comment box on the right side that can collapse if you don't want it displayed. These improvements make photo viewing on Google+ much more fluent and friendly to the eye.
Google isn't done there. They've added the top three most requested features to Google+ Pages as well. Google sums it up best in the list below;
- You can now delegate up to 50 named managers as administrators for a page.
- A new notification flow will ensure that these managers stay in the loop on all the activity that takes place on a page, giving managers the ability to stay involved in page conversations.
- We’ll now show an aggregated count of users that have engaged with your page, either by +1’ing it or by adding it to a circle. This way, both you and your page’s visitors can get an at-a-glance summary of who is interacting with your page.
