As expected, Google announced a new social media service, Google Buzz, this morning.

Integrated into Gmail, Google Buzz allows users to "share updates, photos, videos, and more," as well as start conversations with other people in your Google contacts list.

Google says this is more than simple status messages (take that, Facebook and Twitter) and, judging from the video below, it looks like they aren't lying. Among other things, Buzz integrates media from sites outside of Google's empire, like Flickr and Twitter. There's also an app for phones (Android - of course - and iPhone) which allows you to update your status, see what's going on nearby, and follow your friends (hmmm...starting to sound a bit like Foursquare?)

As usual, Google says it best in the following embedded video.

Google Buzz started rollout today at 2 PM ET. If you don't have it yet, you should soon.
