Google Plus Opens Business Pages to the Public
It’s been an incredibly long wait given the speed the web moves at but finally Google Business Pages on Google Plus (Google’s Social Network) are here. If you are running a business and have not yet dipped a toe in G+ now’s the time to actually do that.
The roll out of Google Business Profiles has now been propagated globally allowing businesses of all types to create a page there and enjoy not just a presence in Google’s fast-growing social network but also a shortcut to search. The rollout was announced officially at the Google Blog and the intention is to allow businesses and brands ot create the same close, personal connection with their potential customers as individuals who have been using the social network, since it opened, have done with each other.
Internet marketers and businesses have been questioning whether there is any real merit to spending time and effort and, quite possibly, money in gearing up for yet another social network besides that of Facebook and Twitter. The answer is a resounding yes. Google Plus is not just “another social network”. It is a close integration of socialisation of content, products and services with search and data on the web.
In plain English this is as different from what marketers have been doing on Facebook as bungee jumping is from trampolining. Both are about travelling through the air without wings but the intensity of each is decidedly different and so is the exposure it’ll give you. Facebook and Twitter, apart from delivering a message to their own crowd, have been necessary because linked content there impacted upon a website’s SEO ranking and helped deliver it higher in Google search. Now with G+ and Business Pages Google can shorten the path by quite a bit, creating a winning proposition for brands which want to attract more customers, businesses which want to be found locally and marketers who want to help their clients succeed.
