Many Klout users noticed a boost in their score today as LinkedIn was added to their profiles to enhance their measurement of influence online.

Since LinkedIn is the largest social network for professionals (with over 100 million users), its no wonder that Klout wanted to integrate some of the happenings that occur on the social network. A quick Q&A on the Klout Blog reveals some additional details.

Grow Your Influence

But don’t think that you can hurry up and rush over to LinkedIn and hurriedly add all your blogger buddies to boost your connections to raise your score. Just like how Klout currently measures your twitter influence, your overall score will be derived based  on your engagement and ability to drive action. So if you want to increase your  Klout score, you are going to have to get involved in those groups, share some links, and generate some content!

Quality Over Quantity, Please!

And kindly do all of us in the SocialMedia-o-sphere a favor and generate quality over quantity. It does none of us any good to see 100 links a day if they aren’t worth looking at, covered in affiliate marketing, or it’s totally obvious that you didn’t even take the time to click them yourselves. If you want to be influential, you must first be influenced, and that means investing the time, energy and effort into the content you intend to share with the rest of us.

A More Complete Measurement of Influence

The great thing about the integration of Facebook and now LinkedIn to twitter is that you will have a much more well rounded look at your true measurement of influence online. If for example you are very active on twitter, dabble in Facebook, and hardly touch linked in, then you’re scores will likely be unchanged. If anything, adding LinkedIn will only help to boost your score, because having additional social media outlets doesn’t mean you are any less influential in your current outlet of  choice, it mean you have a larger audience to be influential too.
