Klout Predicts Grammy Winners Based on Facebook and Twitter Power
Want some insight into who will take away the trophies at the Grammys on Feb. 13?
Klout has predicted this year’s Grammy victors based on scores calculated according to the nominees’ popularity on Facebook and Twitter. Klout’s scoring scale ranges from one to 100, with 100 indicating the greatest sphere of online influence.
Here are Klout’s prognostications:
• Record of the Year – Love The Way You Lie, Eminem (Klout score: 80) featuring Rihanna.
• Album of the Year – The Fame Monster, Lady Gaga (Klout score: 90).
• Best New Artist – Justin Bieber (Klout score: 100), the most influential musician online.
• Best Female Pop Vocal Performance – Lady Gaga.
• Best Male Pop Vocal Performance – Bruno Mars (Klout score: 83).
• Best Metal Performance – Iron Maiden (Klout score: 66).
• Best Female R&B Vocal Performance – Monica (Klout score: 80).
• Best Male R&B Vocal Performance – Usher (Klout score: 83).
• Best Rap Solo Performance – Kanye West (Klout score: 92).
• Best Rap Album – Drake (Klout score: 87).
Lady Gaga appeared at No. 5 on the 2010 Time 100 Poll, ranking the most influential people in the world. Others on the list included Kanye West (No. 34).
Grammy winners are determined by votes from members of the Recording Academy, not by music fans, “so Klout’s method of prediction may not win for accuracy,” according to The Independent of London.
Among other forecasts, editors at Slant Magazine, an online magazine covering news and culture, predict Lady Antebellum will take home Record of the Year (Need You Now) and Album of the Year (Need You Now). Meanwhile, Suite101.com suggests Eminem’s comeback will earn him honors for Record of the Year (Love The Way You Lie) and Album of the Year (Recovery).

Certainly, the Grammy organization realizes the value of social media. On Feb. 11, the Recording Academy hosted the Grammy Social Media Rock Stars Summit in Los Angeles. Among the attendees were former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert, Facebook marketing executive Ethan Beard, Foursquare co-founder Naveen Selvadurai and Pandora founder Tim Westergren.
