Microsoft just installed a gigantic Windows Phone in New York's Herald Square to mark the debut of Windows Phone 7.5 devices on store shelves.

The Windows-based smartphones available from AT&T include the Samsung Focus S, which has a 4.3" screen, the Samsung Focus Flash, which has a 3.7" screen, the HTC Titan, which has a 4.7" screen and HTC's Radar 4G, which has a 3.8" screen and is available on T-Mobile Network.

The event included a performance by Far East Movement as Microsoft continues to go to great lengths to spread awareness of the Windows Phone OS.

The company also said that it's taking steps to align the smartphone OS with its future tablet and PC operating systems.

Microsoft also announced a new promotion that gives new Windows Phone 7.5 smartphone buyers a free gift card that can be used to purchase $25.00 worth of apps. The company says the promo makes it easy to start a new app collection, or replace apps that have already been paid for if someone is switching platforms to Windows Phone. The offer is good in the United States and Puerto Rico.

New users of Windows Phone 7.5 smartphones can apply for the gift card at Microsoft's redemption site. The promo is ongoing right now and the company did not say when it would end.
