DefCon 4: The Live Reindeer Cam
If an authentic letter from Santa will no longer do the trick, why not let your little ones take a gander at a real, live North Pole reindeer? That's exactly what the Reindeer Cam will give them. All reindeer, all day long. Eating, sleeping, pooping, you get the idea.
There's a live stream of nice kids' names on a sign next to the reindeer. If your little ones watch long enough, they might see their first name scroll along - definitely an exciting event for them to witness. There's a partner app that runs $1.99 for Apple iOS and Android devices.
It might not seem like the most exciting aspect of Santa's existence, until you discover that there are several feedings of the reindeer daily, by none other than the red-suited one. There's a feeding schedule on Santa's cam site.
Defcon 3: The Phone Call
This is an option when you need to up the level of response, based on a child's age. At some point, they simply need to hear a voice, to know they are on the right track to Nice-ness. There are a few ways to get your smart phone to say that Santa is calling. One of the easiest is also free of charge. Call from Santa is an app that is only available on iTunes. The app will provide a ring-free phone call on your iPhone. If your kid asks why your phone didn't ring, you can explain the concept of the "super secret phone call". Santa's shiny face will be on your phone's main screen, and you click as normal to accept his call, talking as long as you'd like, then click to hang up again.
From there, it's all up to your skills and ability to have an impromptu conversation. Sort of like what you have to do when your Uncle Joe gets drunk during Christmas dinner. Maybe you should sit down and write up a script first. For your Santa call, not your Uncle Joe.
If your kids call you on the whole Santa phone thing and you need your kids to actually take the phone call and hear Santa's voice for themselves, then up the ante and download Parents Calling Santa, another iOS app that will send a silent phone call. This app, however, delivers one of three Santa messages, based on your child's behavioral feedback needs. Does your kid need a verbal kick in the butt to get off the naughty list? Or a pat on the back to say keep it up? Santa is there for your little boy or girl, as he always has been.Continued on the next page
