Monopoly, one of the most iconic games in history, is about to undergo a token facelift, forever, and maker Hasbro wants Facebook users to help out. Or share the guilt.

In an effort to update those tiny metal tokens users choose from as their game pieces, Hasbro has put all of them on notice, via a Facebook app called Save Your Token. The token that gets the least amount of saving votes on Facebook by February 5th will be replaced for what Hasbro considers a more modern game piece.

On the chopping block are stalwarts sporty car, simple thimble, stringless boot, stoic Scottie Dog, bruising battleship, stylish tophat, stovetop iron and the boxy wheelbarrow. I can honestly say that I've played the popular board game so many times, I've taken a turn at losing with each and every piece.

What tiny tokens have been offered up as replacements for the oh-so-familiar metal stand-ins? A retro robot, diamond ring, frisky cat, sky-friendly helicopter, and fancy guitar. Each has their own unique classic look to them, and I do like the cat, but I'm still torn...

I understand the desire to update a game that's been around since the 1930s. I gotta say that each Monopoly token has memories of growing up, haggling over a price of real estate in an attempt to stay in the game, or grinning over a stacked portfolio of hotels with each and every roll of the dice. I have to say I'm a bit saddened by the change.

Got a favorite token you want to save forevermore? Unleash your legion of Twitter followers with the hashtag #TokenVote. Call out to your Facebook Friends. You can vote daily on the app for your favorite, either to save or to change.

I checked the Leaderboard at Save Your Token, and found both the iron and wheelbarrow in deep danger, understandable to me, as each have the least personal attachment. The shoe is not far behind — seriously, the shoe? Who doesn't like the shoe?!?
