The Case for Spreading Your Data Storage Around
A wise person once said, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket,” suggesting that it’s better to spread your valuables out over several secure places than to rely on just one.
The outage of Google’s Blogger site makes the case for not putting all your valuable information in one place either. If you’re using the Cloud for storage of things you don’t need immediately or don't want regular access to, like a copy of your birth certificate, it can function like a bank’s safety deposit box with no worries. Your data will be fine and you can access it only occasionally,.
But if you’re using the Cloud to store documents, presentations, and such that you need today, right now, or you’re toast, then perhaps spreading the storage and backing up of same to two, or maybe even three, places is a wiser strategy.
Google hasn’t commented on when their Blogger service will be back up and functinoal, but I’m sure they’re running around like the proverbial chicken without its head looking to solve this problem.
And since I had the solution to which came first, the chicken or the egg, but am unable to release my latest blog which contained the answer, the world will just have to wait for Google to get its act together before this age old question will be solved.
