The First House of Rice in Old Havana is Already Open
The local tour company Habaguanex S.A., assigned to the Office of the Historian of Havana, brings different offers to start 2012 as part of its expansion projects. Among these is the opening of several restaurants, cafes and shops. The new House of Rice is located in one of the halls of Santo Angel Restaurant, in the Old Square.
In 1866, the house -now the restaurant-, was owned by Susana Benitez Parejo, who decided to establish in this place a school for poor children, “Holy Angel”, space that since 1932 shared one of its floors to the music conservatory “Santa Amelia”.
With a complete redesign, the House of Rice offers a menu dedicated to exquisite culinary varieties associated with this food, and so it’s joined to the rescue work for the culinary traditions of Cuban cuisine.
Among the offerings are the four-cheese rice, fried rice, rice with chicken, and the risotto with seafood. The most typical Cuban dishes are - besides the Creole chili sauce and combinations of rice with various ingredients-, the roast pork or fried plantains (plantain chips crushed and fried), fried pork and corned beef.
Since its inception, the Cuban cuisine has been the result of a confluence of factors that allowed the formation of nationality in the nineteenth century: the mixture of Spanish customs, Aboriginal, African, and the subsequent influence of Asian and Mexican immigration.
Cuba receives a high volume of foreign visitors in the months of December through April. For most of them, Old Havana is a must go for Cuba holidays. Habaguanex is the leading company of the hotel network and other infrastructure that opens the doors to the world of Old Havana.
The company, founded 18 years ago, is distinguished by being a witness and protagonist of the recovery of the historic center, declared Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO in 1982.
Among the projects for this year, Habaguanex intends to open its hotel number 20, The Terral, across from the Malecon is expected to be available for your holidays to Cuba for the summer of 2012.
