The Power of Blogging for a Politician

The just announced election results did not surprise many except the losing electoral party. I dare to say that even other states wanted this result. The election result has been on everyone’s favorite debate as of now which is bound to lose their interest in exactly seven days.

Strangely, out of nowhere, Ronald Reagan’s quote entered my random access memory (RAM). He said, “Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed there are many rewards, if you disgrace yourself you can always write a book.”

Hmmm… nicely said and true to some extent. While defeated politicians may not decide to write a book, they should at least least consider start blogging, which might prove to be extremely beneficial at the time of next election.

Yes! Why not? In fact I would urge every politician to start blogging that might turn out to be more powerful than their usual election campaign in air-conditioned cars and public speeches under scorching sun!
Before I cite blogs of politicians as examples (not many in this arena), I put forward some of the points that would certainly convince many politicians to launch their blogs. In fact, some would even regret for not doing so thus far.

Bypass mainstream media:

All politicians without exception want media and public attention on them as long as they live.(It is alright for you to read between the lines) However, not all the mainstream media such as newspapers, television channels, radio talks and local magazines wait on them forever to capture and report every breath of them.

Blogging politicians can afford not to be concerned by this natural indifference. They can update their daily activities (public of course), upload meaningful photos and invite comments from their supporters. This would firstly prove as a great documentation and slowly it would reach the higher echelons in their own party.

In addition, their blog would put them in limelight always and they would never go out of the public’s memory.

Ironically, blogs that are updated daily would start the mainstream media to look in their direction and there is no looking back afterwards.

Fund raising through blogs

We all read random newspaper reports that a politician here and a party member there was successful in raising funds through their blogs and microblogs. Thus, a blog can be used to raise funds and also to disburse it to public causes that would make the popular television channels to pick it up and report. This way, politicians’ own constituency members would be reminded of their elected member’s benevolent actions.
