She translated. I reposted. And the readers came. From all over China they came!
The following morning, she and I were chatting using Google Chat within Gmail. I suddenly noticed my inbox was starting to fill with notifications of Twitter followers. In five minutes there were 50. In two hours, 145.
I told her what was happening.
She said she sent out a tweet asking her followers to follow me. I later chatted with a young Chinese Twitter user who ask me to email her. I wrote her an email about my experiences living in China. She was moved by both my email and article. While chatting with her, my inbox filled up with Twitter follower notifications again. She tweeted her followers saying how moved she was by my email and article. So the number of followers rose to around 350 in about 24 hours.

So that’s my personal experience of social media in action. When it all began, I was just trying to raise reader awareness. I think I accomplished that.
