To Facebook via Orkut: A Writer's Blogging Platform Journey
I am an amateur but aspiring short story writer. I am trying to learn things, keeping a blog on WordPress as my platform. Of late, I observe that I am doing things differently. One of those is to seek if Blogspot could offer me more features on the blogging domain. And as I think of making the move, I see WordPress coming up with even better user options.
And as I decided to stick to the blogging domain, friends told me that Orkut is the place where I need to post my articles regularly. They said Orkut is where things can be made visible. I began doing it just to try it out. What began as an experiment with my short story writing, became an experiment in drawing more hits to my blog, through appealing to friends on Orkut.
Even more recently, some of my old friends said, Orkut is dead, and Facebook is the new fad. I fully understood what they said. And as I see now, the first page I am opening after connecting to the internet is not my Gmail any more, it is Facebook. And I am asking myself a serious question: Should I continue to blog on WordPress or should I stick to building my personality on Facebook? This is a question that never crossed my mind until I realized I was in control of technology.
I am reminded of Kevin Kelly's new work, "What Technology Wants," where the author quotes that technology wants to be free and humans who create technology are teaching it the ways to be free.
I am now consciously trying to retain my freedom, just trying to get back to blogging and scribbling my short stories.
