Twitter and AMEX Deal – What Does It Mean for Local Business Owners?
On February 16th, Twitter announced a deal with AMEX that opens up an ad platform for small businesses to utilize. Twitter is launching a self-serve ad system in March which will first be made available to 10,000 AMEX small businesses. The Company plans to expand and open the system up more broadly then later in the year. The first 10,000 to sign-up will also receive $100 in free advertising from Twitter.
What does a deal like this mean to the local business owner?
Deals such as these are very exciting in my opinion because they are GREAT for small and local businesses. They reinforce how the playing field continues to level making it possible for small businesses to compete with the big players if local business owners know how to use the technologies, such as Twitter, successfully.
We’ve seen the leveling of this playing field in the recent past with the World Wide Web that now provides the capability for small businesses to advertise for pennies on the dollar vs. having to spend tens of thousands of dollars in the past for advertisements—such as billboards and TV and radio spots—to keep up with companies who had the capital to spend on such items. At the same time, to reiterate an earlier point, local businesses need to be smart no matter how they spend their money, so it’s important to understand how online marketing and technologies work to truly outdo the competition without breaking the bank.Continued on the next page
