Twitter, Going Places
Twitter officially launched Twitter Places this week, giving users the ability to tag Tweets with specific places and create new locations. Users will also be able click a Twitter Place within a Tweet to see recent Tweets from a particular location.
Other features of this service include:
- Foursquare and Gowalla integration: Many Foursquare and Gowalla users already publish check-ins to Twitter so as a result, the company worked closely with both of the location based service services to associate a Twitter Place with Tweets generated by these services. Basically, it means that if a user clicks on a Twitter Place, they will see standard Tweets and check-ins from Foursquare and Gowalla.
- API: Twitter released API functionality that lets developers integrate Twitter Places into their applications.
- Support for more browsers: Users can now add location to your Tweets from any browser—Safari and Internet Explorer, in addition to Chrome or Firefox.
The service will be rolled out to 65 countries and will be available via the website, it's mobile website and mobile applications.
