Twitter Profiles Get a Makeover
Today saw the launch of new profiles for Twitter. Twitter CEO Dick Costolo unveiled the new profiles, alongside a rebuilt iPad app, via the companies blog today.
The new profile will be rolled out across Twitter platforms, including twitter.com, mobile apps and of course the new iPad app.
So what's changed? Well in a nod to Facebook cover images, users will now have a masthead at the top of their profile to play with.
The page itself has been reoriented to play up other visuals as well: Your avatar is no longer tucked in the corner, but will display front and center. The photo stream, too, has been moved up, and will now be accessible on the apps.
The new layout has the affect of pushing tweets further down the page, as more screen space is taken up by the headline image. You can see an example of the new profile layout below.
The new layout will be rolled out very quickly, with many profiles already having the option to switch over. To do so you need to opt-in to the new look via your Twitter account.
Don't think you can avoid the change however as eventually all users will have to adopt the new look, although it's expected that this mandatory switch won't occur for a few months yet.
What do you think of the new layout?
