Vocus, a cloud-based marketing and PR software provider, made quite the splash in the PR and social media world last June by snatching up the up-start service Help A Reporter Out. Today, the company announced the acquisition of Engine 140, a move that pushes them further into social media space.

According to the press release, Engine 140 "proprietary recommendation engine identifies industry- or topic-specific influencers and then serves up recommendations on what, when, how and with whom to tweet in order to quickly and easily engage influencers and build a brand on Twitter."

“The Engine 140 technology will be incorporated into our existing social media product to help our customers more easily engage and build influence on Twitter,” said Rick Rudman, president and CEO, Vocus. “The addition of You Mon and Dan to Vocus brings two visionaries that will help lead the future development of our cloud-based marketing platform.”

Engine 140’s technology, according to the announcement, will be integrated into upcoming releases of Vocus’ social media product, which was launched in 2010.
