You’ve probably heard the expression: If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound? Well, the social media version goes like this: If your customers can’t find your blog online, is it really there?

If you are blogging for business purposes, your target audience must be able to find and read your articles for your blog to be an effective marketing tool. Here are a few strategies to keep in mind to accomplish that goal:

#1 – Use keywords

Once you come up with a topic for an article, do some keyword research to find out which words and phrases your customers use to search for that topic. Add those keywords to your blog’s title and the body of the article.

#2 – Create a compelling title

Since only two out of ten people who see a blog title will read the rest of the article, it’s critical to have a compelling title. How do you grab people’s attention? Studies have shown that numbers in the headline are the most popular strategy — such as “7 ways to do something….“ or a “Top ten” list. “How to” titles are also very effective because people like to learn something new. And another way to pique your reader’s interest is to ask a question in the blog title.

#3 – Comment on other people’s blogs

Spend time reading other blogs in your industry. Add your comments to an article when you can add information about the topic that wasn’t included. If you disagree with the author’s point of view, explain why in your comment. Whoever reads your comment may decide to visit your blog to learn more about you and your business. However, for this strategy to work, you must include the URL of your blog when you comment.

#4 – Leverage the power of social networking sites

Post links to your latest blog article on any social networking sites you use, such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Also, make it easy to share your blog articles by including widgets to social networking sites at the beginning and/or end of your articles.

When you follow these strategies and publish content that appeals to your target market, you’ll have a golden opportunity to attract readers and convert them into customers for your business.
