Jimmy Wales founder of the online encyclopedia WikiPedia, just announced via twitter that the English site of Wikipedia will be joining a small number of web site that will go "dark" on Wednesday January 18, 2012. This is to send a message the US Government regarding Internet Censorship in disguise as the SOPA and PIPA Bill.

SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protech IP Act) are two bill that were created to help stop online privacy and IP theft and since the service provider will also be held liable, there has been a consensus that the two bill will eventually be used as a tool to censor and filter the Internet and in the long run the open internet.

The English side of WikiPedia will shut-down for 24 hours to raise awareness about the two bill and encourages others to do so. well just by announcing that they'll participate in the Wednesday black-out Jimmy and Wikipedia has already sent a big message, now if only other big and high-profiles sites like Yahoo, Technorati, Google and Facebook will follow suit. I guess, we'll just have to wait and see.
