Your Facebook Friend May Be A Burglar
Is there really such a thing as privacy in the world of social networking? Even if there is, those who use it are not always so private about their business.
The next time you go shopping, you might want to think twice about taking a picture and showing off your expensive new goods on Facebook. You never know who might be watching.
Who knows? It might be a (dramatic organ music plays)… Burglar! Oh no, but wait none of my friends are burglars.
In the world of social networking, a lot of the times we don’t always concern ourselves with who is on our friends list.
Why is that?
Well, for many Facebook and Twitter users, it may look cool to have 100,000 friends and followers. It can make others say, “Wow, that person is really loved.” Sometimes these are people who want to get to know your habits and see how lavish your buying tastes are. When they do, they’ll go shopping. Only when they go shopping, they’ll be shopping at a five finger discount; right inside your homes.
The Telegraph reports on a recent study conducted on convicted burglars this year. The statistics say that four out of five criminals and burglars were using social media websites to learn about their would be victims; the worst part about it is that they had no home alarms to deter them in their efforts.
The digital age has opened everyone up to so much more in the way of opportunities for everyone. The fact that a criminal would use this as an opportunity to get some goods and cash from their Facebook friends makes perfect sense.
The next time you let your Facebook friends know where you are at, when you’ll be gone for the holidays or showing off that new jewelry think twice.
Always be vigilant.
