All You Need Is Love
On Thursday the PGA of America announced Davis Love III will be the captain of Team USA when they host the 2012 Ryder Cup. The announcement comes just days after the European Team announced their 2012 captain, Jose Maria Olazabal of Spain.
Love has been a member of the US Ryder Cup team six times and has an overall record of 9-12-5. The selection does not come as a surprise to most golfers. Love won the PGA Championship in 1997 when it was held at Winged Foot in Mamaroneck, New York.
In his six Ryder Cup Appearances, Love was on the winning side twice. In 1993 the Americans won at The Belfry in England and on US soil in 1999 at Brookline in Massachusetts. Love has the experience and knows how to win in these events.
The 27th Team USA Ryder Cup captain was emotional during his press conference at Medinah Country Club just outside of Chicago. Medinah will host the event in 2012 when Love leads the squad. Love's father was deeply involved in the PGA of America as a well know coach. He also played in the 1964 Masters but passed away in 1988 in a plane crash.
