Blog Focus: Reactions to Brandon Jennings' 55 Point Outburst
Bucks rookie Brandon Jennings, who was the third point guard taken in the NBA Draft, set a rookie franchise record with 55 points in a game last week and also earned NBA Player of the Week Honors.
So far, he's clearly the best rookie in the league. Here's what some NBA bloggers have had to say about his start this season:
The Baseline: "This is a player who, despite his sub-par teammates, spends an awful lot of time trying to orchestrate an offense, get shots for others and use his abilities to vivify the team game. In his debut, he surprised us all by pulling in 8 rebounds. Now comes the kind of scoring outburst we'd expect of Melo or Bron, not a flimsy rook best-suited and most inclined to play within an offense except when it's clear he has to take it all on his shoulders."
Brew Hoop: "Brandon Jennings' emergence could mean everything to this franchise. And even if Jennings has been playing far beyond anyone's expectations anyway, there was something transformative about watching his performance Saturday night. Rookies have scored 32 points before. Rookies have almost had triple-doubles before. But it's been over forty years since any rookie scored 55 points in a game. No one has ever scored 50 at such a young age or so early in his career. And when you break records associated with names like LeBron, Wilt, and Earl Monroe, stuff starts to get serious."
Bucksketball: "You may remember Glenn Robinson as a polished and proven rookie when he came into the league. Bucks fans knew what they had in Big Dog. We’re still learning about what we have in Brandon Jennings. Is there anything more terrifying for the rest of the league than the fact that Jennings is just getting started? This guy has a lot to learn and a ton of room to grow … and he’s already won a player of the week award and scored 55 points!"
