Daily Five: Blake Griffin Won't Play This Year and Devin Harris Trade Rumors
Each day, we'll take a quick look at five of the most important stories going on in the NBA.
Marc Stein: "One source with knowledge of the Clippers' thinking said Wednesday that knowing now that Griffin is not coming back this season makes it more likely that L.A. keeps Camby for the rest of the season to continue his frontcourt partnership with Chris Kaman and rely on Camby to fill the Griffin void."
NBA.com: "For the first time the NBA will hold a nationally televised slam dunk competition - the NBA All-Star Slam Dunk-In - to determine one of the participants in the Sprite Slam Dunk, the NBA announced today. This one-round slam dunk-in competition will be held during halftime of the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam on Friday, Feb. 12, and fans will determine the winner by voting via SMS text message and at NBA.com."
Miami Herald: "Two people who spoke to the Heat said LeBron James is clearly the outside free agent most coveted by the Heat, but Miami does not want to risk losing out on other targeted stars by waiting too long. Re-signing Dwyane Wade remains the No. 1 priority."
Empty The Bench: "As fate would have it, though, Foye has gotten another chance at career redemption. Arenas is probably done in Washington, the team is no longer entertaining real playoff hopes, and suddenly the minutes and opportunity are there, just like they were for 3 years in Minnesota, for Foye to prove he can play at a high level and has a spot somewhere in the bottom half of the league’s second tier of players."
Dave D'Alessondro: "And rest assured, the Nets are disappointed enough to listen to offers for Harris — they just don’t expect to get anything done with any of their six core guys before the Feb. 18th deadline. But they’re not exactly considering him (sportswriter cliché alert) an untouchable anymore."
