ESPN: LeBron to Meet with Knicks and Nets
ESPN is reporting that the star of the star-studded NBA free agent class, LeBron James, will meet with various teams in northeast Ohio later this week. Previous reports said that James would conduct a tour, which, according to his people, isn't true.
The rumor mill is flying with all types of info — who knows what's true or what's not true.
One rumor, that seems quite credible according to ESPN, is that King James will be meeting with the Tri-state teams first — the New Jersey Nets and the New York Knicks.
Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that the latest plan calls for the New Jersey Nets — led by new owner Mikhail Prokhorov and minority owner/longtime James pal Jay-Z — to be the first team to meet James face to face. No one from James' camp, though, would confirm the meeting.
James is reportedly set to meet the Knicks on Thursday.
The prime target for free agency threw a grenade in the room and set teams jumping and scrambling after his anti-tour message. Teams were looking to wine and dine the perennial all-star and money maker, dazzling him with the riches of the city, giving him boat loads of cash and helping him walk on water.
Seriously though, James' plans must have sent teams up the crazy pole. There must have been a slew of plans in the making to roll out the red carpet for this guy, only to fizzle away and be replaced by personal meetings at James' home court.
Next week, the frenzy will begin and this question will be answered sooner or later.
Where do you think James will end up?
