Fergie Sabatoges Adam Bid
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has put his full weight behind Blackpool manager Ian Holloway's £14 Million price tag for former Rangers Midfielder Charlie Adam. Following the Seasider's match with the Red Devils on Tuesday where Adam led his team to a 2-0 lead until the last fifteen minutes of the match when a last gasp Dimitar Berbatov brace with a Javier Hernandez strike sandwiched in between got United a 2-3 victory.
Sir Alex made the following comments in his press conference:
“We just couldn't handle Charlie Adam's free-kicks and corners. We were all over the place.
“His corner kicks are worth £10million in themselves. The boy is an incredible striker of the ball.”
Ferguson's comments spoke music to Holloway's ears whom has been fending of Liverpool's bids for his captain despite Adam putting in a transfer request in order to try and force a move to Merseyside. Holloway addressed the situation in his press conference as well.
"Charlie will have to accept whatever we do," said Holloway.
"In the summer he will have 12 months left on his contract. [That is] a whole new ball park."
"I'll speak to the owners and let them know how Charlie feels but we have a duty to the fans to run the club professionally."
With reports that Aston Villa are also pursuing the star Liverpool continue to have competition to acquire his services. However, it does not look like a move will happen as the Reds are reportedly eying up alternatives. The situation with Adam mirrors the situation with Luis Suarez as both targets look to be more likely to be able to happen in the summer as the transfer window is almost shut.
