Golf's Finest Back Together Again
The biggest names in golf’s PGA Tour history will be playing together again. Augusta National Golf Club chairman Bill Payne announced who will attend the 2011 Masters tournament as the honorary starter in 2011. Gary Player has agreed to join Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus as an honorary starter at Augusta.
The last time fans saw all three together was in 2001 at the opening tee for two rounds. Unfortunately next year fans will only be seeing them tee off one shot as the ceremonial beginning to the tournament. There has been an honorary starter at the Masters even since it began back in 1963. The tournament hasn’t had 3 honorary starters since 1999 when Gene Sarazen, Byron Nelson and Sam Snead took the stage.
These three powerhouse players have amassed a total of 13 green jackets between all of them. Player has long been the international golf ambassador, opening up the world stage for players and fans to enjoy the game. He was the first international champion of the Masters winning it 1961, 1974, and 1978. His legacy has a lasting memory on both fans and players around the world.
