Italy Defeats Germany; Will Face Spain in Euro Cup Final
In an another exciting Euro cup semifinal Italy defeated Germany 2-1. Manchester City Striker Mario Balotelli scored a double to seal the semifinal win for his team.
Italy will now face the defending champions of Euro cup in the final match on Sunday. Spain already qualified for the finals by beating Portugal 4-2 in the penalty shootout.
Mario Balotelli scored both goals in the first half and made it extremely difficult for Germany to recover in the match. Balotelli easily headed home the cross by Antonio Cassano and opened up the goal account for Italy in the 20th minute of the match. Balotelli second goal in the 36th minute was enough for Italy to get the Ticket to the Final.
The only goal for Germany was scored by Mesut Ozil in the injury time when they received a penalty kick opportunity after Italy's defender Federico Balzaretti was whistled for handball.
Balotelli scored his first goal of the tournament against Republic of Ireland but later in the tournament he missed many goal scoring opportunities and there were many questions raised about Balotelli's presence in Team. But coach Cesare Prandelli kept his faith upon him and Balotelli didn't upset him and leaded Italy in the Final match of tournament.
With the win Italy also kept alive their streak of never losing to Germany in major tournaments. Italy has never lost to Germany in 5 world cup and 3 Euro cup meetings. While on the other side the win ended Germany's world record winning streak in 15 competitive matches. German team was undefeated since July 10, 2010 when they defeated Uruguay 3–2.
The final will take place on first day of July at Olympic Stadium in Kiev. Italy will go against Spain with the intention of winning European championship after 45 long years.
