Juventus In the Pursuit of Milan
Past week gave the fans of Italian football two super games. Juventus, after the physically and psychologically hard victory on the Milan at the semi-final of the Italian Cup in Tuesday, had to play against another super club Inter at the Italian Serie A. The victory over the Milan inspired players and fans of the Turin club, and the team went to Sunday's match in a very good mood. However, Saturday night Milan beat Roma and recalled that the four-point gap in the championship still exists. Given a tournament situation Juventus needed a victory.
The task of Juventus was somewhat simplified by the current state of Inter. The Milanese team won just one game in the last nine matches - two weeks ago was beaten the modest Chievo Verona. Also, Inter already said “goodbye” to the current Champions League. Claudio Ranieri's team currently has to fight, at best, for the third place in Serie A, giving the right to participate in the next season’s preliminary round of Champions League.
The first half of the game between Juventus and Inter was with varying success for both teams. At the beginning of the game Juventus has several opportunities to hit the Inter’s goals but at the same time Milanese team has strong opportunities to open a score too. In the second half, Juventus has added greatly to the attack and scored two goals. Goals from Martin Caceres and the captain Alessandro Del Piero proved enough to seal all three points from a feisty encounter played out in front of a red-hot atmosphere at Juventus Stadium.
After this stage of Italian Championship, Juventus is at the second place with 59 points, while Milan still holds the leadership with 63 points. Inter is at the eight place with 41 points.
