Kyle Busch Unflappable at Bristol
BRISTOL, Tenn. — Vegas bookies may have to post Kyle Busch as a sure thing for Bristol races. I know I wouldn't bet against him. He swept all three races there in August last year. He continued his concrete domination by sweeping the Nationwide and Sprint Cup events this weekend.
The only question is, can anybody figure out what it's going to take to beat this guy at the world's fastest half mile?
Kyle Busch was first out of the pits after a caution on Lap 429. He was able to fend off polesitter Carl Edwards and defending Sprint Cup champion, Jimmie Johnson on his way to this checkered flag. It was his fifth straight victory across all three of NASCAR’s top national series at Bristol Motor Speedway.
In addition to his back-to-back sweep, Kyle Busch will be able to claim victory in the Jeff Byrd 500. No other driver will ever be able to make that claim.. It was also his 20th visit to victory lane in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, his first of the season and his second straight at this Tennessee track.
Pole-sitter Carl Edwards, currently the hottest driver in NASCAR, finished second for the second time this year. This follows a win two weeks ago at Vegas. Jimmy Johnson finished third, Matt Kenseth fourth and a strong finish for fifth place Paul Menard. Kyle's brother Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, Greg Biffle, Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman rounded out the top 10.
My favorite quote of the weekend, which turned out to be somewhat prophetic, came from Darrell Waltrip, who said on the Fox pre-race show, "Nice guys don't win at Bristol."
