NBC Is Still Oblivious To Complaints About Olympic Coverage

Throughout the Winter Olympics, one complaint has grown louder with each passing day: when the games are in North America, why does NBC insist on covering them via tape delay?

NBC has, like all corporations, been extremely concerned and sensitive to the desires of their consumers.

Just kidding. They could care less. They've been trotting out executives like Jeff Zucker — you might remember him from such debacles as the Conan/Leno late night feud — to talk about how happy the advertisers are. Because if there's one thing viewers care about, it's the happiness of people who produce ads like this.

But Deadspin found a very powerful executive at NBC who's on the side of viewers who want live coverage. In fact, it's arguably the most powerful executive when it comes to sports and Olympics coverage — Dick Ebersol. Here's what Ebersol had to say:

"A domestic Olympics cries out to be telecast live across the entire country as previous U.S. games have been," he said.

So, good news, right?

"I am emphatic that delaying our primetime Salt Lake coverage is a mistake."

Oh. He said that about 10 years ago. Live Olympic coverage from NBC is likley going to remain a pipe dream.
