Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics might owe Al Horford of the Hawks $10,000
NBA fans won't soon forget the trash-talk filled Celtics-Hawks series from the first round of the NBA playoffs in 2008.
The Celtics ultimately prevailed over an upstart Hawks team that had no business taking that series seven games. One of the most memorable moments, shown int he above video, was the Al Horford/Paul Pierce incident. Horford taunted Pierce, Pierce flashed a gang sign, we all moved on. But apparently there was more to the story:
"According to Al Horford, Paul Pierce owes him $10K because he successfully wagered that the Hawks would win a game against Boston in their heated Playoff series last season. Somewhere, Pete Rose is rolling over in his grave: “It’s hard to forget the heated exchange between Paul Pierce and Al Horford in Game 3 of the 2008 NBA Playoffs against the Atlanta Hawks. The series went seven intense games — three more than Paul Pierce gave the Hawks, according to Horford. As Horford and teammate Marvin Williams chatted it up today on ‘Mayhem in the AM,’ the morning sports show on Atlanta’s 790 The Zone, that incident came up in the conversation. Horford said that during the series, he and Pierce were at the free throw line and the Celtics veteran bet Horford, then a rookie, that the Hawks wouldn’t win a game. The wager, Horford said, was for $10,000. Horford said he hasn’t talked to Pierce since, ‘But I know he owes me money.”‘"
