Racing's Elite Gathers at Eldora Speedway for Annual Charity Event
NASCAR Racing goes back to its roots this week with Wednesday's "Prelude to a Dream" event at Tony Stewart's Eldora Speedway.
The small dirt track sits smack dab in the middle of nowhere, a few miles from Indiana and an hour north of Dayton. It's a long way from Charlotte and Talladega, but come this Wednesday night it becomes NASCAR central.
Back in 2004 Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart purchased the old Eldora Speedway and immediately went to work crafting a special charity event where a few of his friends could drop by, have a little fun playing in the dirt, and make a little money for various charitable organizations.
The race takes place on the Wednesday before the annual Dirt Late Model Dream Race, hence the name "Prelude to the Dream." This years event reads like a who's who of Motorsports with drivers from NASCAR, NHRA, IRL and others joining the field.
There will be four primary charities benefiting from this years race. The field is separating into four different teams representing different children's hospitals as follows:
Team Levine Children's Hospital: Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Bill Elliott, David Reutimann, Austin Dillon, Ray Evernham and Cruz Pedregon.
Team Children's Healthcare of Atlanta: Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards, Clint Bowyer, Ken Schrader, David Gilliland and Ron Capps.
Team St. Louis Children's Hosital: Kyle Busch, Kasey Kahne, Bobby Labonte, Justin Allgaier, Kenny Wallace, Ron Hornaday and Ricky Carmichael.
Team Children's Medical Center of Dallas: Tony Stewart, Tony Kanaan, Matt Kenseth, Brian Vickers, Marcos Ambrose, Aric Almirola and Dave Blaney.
