Renan Barao Versus Michael McDonald Set to Headline UFC on Fuel TV 7 in London
The UFC on Fuel TV 7 card now has a headline bout as UFC interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao (29-1) defends his title against Michael McDonald (19-1). The event is set to take place the Wembley Arena in London, England, on Feb. 16.
The main event was recently confirmed by UFC officials.
UFC on Fuel TV 7 will also feature a match-up between Che Mills and Matthew Riddle, who will engage in a welterweight battle. The main card will air live on Fuel TV following the prelims which air on Facebook.
Renan Barao last fought at UFC 149 in July, where he scored a unanimous decision victory over Urijah Faber to become the UFC interim bantamweight champ. Prior to that he picked up a unanimous decision victory over Scott Jorgensen at UFC 143 in February, and a first round submission win over Brad Pickett at UFC 138 in November 2011. Barao has not lost a fight since April 2005, when he made his pro MMA debut against Joao Paulo at Heat FC 3 in Natal, Brazil. Renan will now look to make his first title defense against McDonald in February.
Michael McDonald is currently riding an eight fight winning streak, most recently defeating Miguel Torres via first round KO at UFC 145 in April. Prior to that he scored a first round KO victory over Alex Soto at UFC 139 in November 2011, and a decision win over Chris Cariaso at UFC 130 in May. McDonald now a chance to take home the title with a big performance against Barao.
This should be an interesting bout between two exciting fighters who are hungry for success within the bantamweight division. With Dominick Cruz on the sidelines due to an ACL injury all focus is now on the interim belt.
