Serena Williams Wins Olympic Gold Medal, Defeating Maria Sharapova

Wimbledon, London;
In the battle for Women's singles Olympic Gold match Serena Williams crushed Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova to win the Gold. Williams won the match by 6-0,6-1. This was the 23rd Gold for United States, who is leading the Medal tally in London Olympics.
It took Serena just an hour to win over Sharapova. This was the eighth consecutive win for Serena over Sharapova. Last time when Maria won against Serena was way back in 2004, where she won the WTA Tour Championship match by 4-6 6-2 6-4.
By winning the Gold Medal Serena has completed her "Career Golden Slam" by winning all 4 Grand-slams, Wimbledon(2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012), US Open(1999, 2002, 2008), Australian Open(2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010), French Open(2002) and now winning the Gold Medal at London Olympics 2012!
With this win Serena Williams has become the second women in history after Steffi Graf to have completed the Career Golden Slam in Singles tournament.
Serena had already completed Career Golden Grand-slam in doubles tournament along with her sister Venus Williams. The William twins had won Gold in 2000 Sydney Olympics and then in 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Speaking after the match Serena said that she is really happy, and had practiced really hard for the match. Serena also appreciated Sharapova, saying that she gave her best in the match.
Serena also showed some dance moves at the medal ceremony. During the ceremony when the 3 flags of the medal bearers were being raised over the court, the flag of United States blew in the crowd due to the winds.
Earlier Victoria Azarenka of Belarus won the bronze medal by defeating Maria Kirilenko of Russia by 6-3, 6-4.
