Seven Missing Athletes
According to official Olympic sources seven athletes from the Cameroonian team have going missing from the Olympic park in London.
The first to go missing was Drusille Ngako, the reserve goalkeeper for the woman’s soccer team, who seems to have vanished as her team-mates travelled up to Coventry. Second was swimmer Paul Ekane Essomba. The rest of the seven are all from the boxing team, Thomas Essomba, Christian Donfack Adjoufack, Abdon Mewoli, Blaise Yepmou Mendouo and Serge Ambomo, who all disappeared on Sunday from the Olympic village in London.
"What began as rumor has finally turned out to be true," Team Cameroon mission head David Ojong said, in a letter sent to the Cameroonian sports ministry, adding, "Seven Cameroonian athletes who participated at the 2012 London Olympic Games have disappeared from the Olympic Village."
At this stage it is not clear where the athletes are located or what their intentions are, however it looks likely they will try and stay in the UK or another European country. Poverty is rife in the African nation where an estimated 12 million people are unemployed out of a population of just 20 million. Even those lucky enough to be in work find day to day living extremely hard as wages are low and corruption is commonplace.
