Transitions Championship Preview & Fantasy Picks
The PGA TOUR heads to Palm Harbor, Florida this week for the Transitions Championship. The majority of the top players in the world have taken the week off but plenty of excitement surrounds the event as players look to pick up valuable FedEx Cup points and others look to qualify for the Masters.
Jim Furyk won here last year on his way to capturing the FedEx Cup Championship and PGA TOUR Player of the Year honors. Expectations were high for Furyk but after a tough start to 2011, he will look for comfort on a course where he has been crowned champion.
If Furyk is going to repeat, he will have to defeat the top player in the world, Martin Kaymer. SinceTiger Woods has been dethroned, Kaymer is the second player to hold the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking. He knows a win would give him some breathing room as players throughout the world try to knock him from his pedestal.
Three Groups to Watch at the Transitions Championship
3. Mark Wilson, Jim Furyk & Vijay Singh: Mark Wilson has won twice on the PGA TOUR and seems to do it when no one is paying attention. He's at the top of the FedEx Cup standings and a big week here would only add to his lead. Jim Furyk has struggled this season with only one top 10 finish in his previous five starts. Sometimes coming back to a place you won is exactly what a player needs to kickstart his season. Vijay Singh is off to his best start in years. He has finished in the top 3 twice this year, his best finishes since 2008 when he won 3 times. If he gets hot, it could mean trouble for the other guys on TOUR.Continued on the next page
