UFC on Fox 5 Preview: Benson Henderson Defends Lightweight Title Against Nate Diaz
UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson (17-2) will defend his title against Nate Diaz (16-7) in the main event at UFC on FOX 5 this coming weekend. The event is set to take place at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington on December 8, 2012.
UFC on Fox 5 will also feature a bout between Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Alexander Gustafsson, who will square off in a light heavyweight battle. The main card is set to air live on Fox with the prelims which are expected to air on FX and Facebook.
Benson Henderson is currently riding a five fight winning streak, most recently defeating Frankie Edgar via split decision in their re-match for the title at UFC 150 in August. Prior to his original bout with Edgar in February, Henderson picked up unanimous decision victories over Mark Bocek, Jim Miller and Clay Guida. Ben only has two losses on his pro record, the first came against Rocky Johnson back in 2007 and the most recent was against Anthony Pettis at WEC 53. Henderson will no doubt look to make his second title defense against Diaz and put another notch in the win column.
Meanwhile, Nate Diaz last fought at UFC on Fox 3 in May, where he scored a second round submission victory over Jim Miller. Prior to that he picked up a unanimous decision victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 141 in December 2011, and a first round submission win over Takanori Gomi at UFC 135 in September. Diaz will now has a chance to take home the title and carve his name in the UFC history books.
