UK Transfer Deadline Day
Today is the 31st day of January 2011 and could be one of the most exciting in the UK football calender. This is because January 31st is Transfer Deadline day. A day that can shape a teams run in to the end of the season, this can be a positive lift by adding a key player or by losing one of your stars.
So what could be today's big stories, here is the gossip as of 9.30am:
Chelsea multi billionaire owner Roman Abramovic could be putting is hand into his deep pockets once again after a period of holding back. Rumours have been rife that the marque signing of Fernando Torres could finally come to an end today after an initial approach of around £35 million was rejected. There have been numerous reports that there may be a proposed player swap with Nic Anelka, and also that the Liverpool valuation of £50 million would be met. I think at £50 million this would be a massive risk for Chelsea, whilst they would be capturing a huge talent, Torres has shown to have injury problems and inconsistent form.
Keeping on the Liverpool topic firstly I think they would be mad not to let Torres go, he has not performed this year and having a £50 million lift in the bank balance would set them up to pick up a number of other players to bolster their weeks squad. So who could fill the Torres void. Rumours have surficed that if Torres does depart Liverpool will test Newcastles resolve with a £30 million bid for Andy Carroll, it is also though they may try to capture Aston Villa winger Ashley Young and up their bid for Blackpool want away captain Charlie Adam. It does seem as though there may be other suitors for Adam such as Premiere League favourites Manchest United.
