US Open 2012: Novak Djokovic to Defend the Title Against Andy Murray on Monday
New York; September 10, 2012:
Defending Champion of the US Open Title, Novak Djokovic will face Andy Murray in the Singles tournament final on Monday. This this for five straight years the US Open Men's single final will be played on Monday.
Djokovic secured a place in Final by defeating David Ferrer of Spain. Earlier on Saturday the match was postponed to next day due to bad weather conditions. Ferrer was leading the game by 5-2.
When the match continued on Sunday Ferrer won the first set 6-2. But later on Djokovic didn't look back again and won three back to back sets winning the semifinal match by by 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. This will be the fourth time that Djokovic will be playing the US Open single's final match.
In the first semifinal match British Tennis star Andy Murray defeated Tomáš Berdych of Czech Republic by 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 to reach the finals. The match stretched for four hours !
Murray who has earlier played four grand slam finals is still in search of his first Grand slam victory. Millions of British fans have huge expectations from Murray with a hope that he will end a 75 year long drought of a Grand slam victory for Great Britain.
The last time when a British tennis player won a singles grand slam tournament was way back in 1936 U.S. National Championships(Now known as the US Open). Britain's Fred Perry won that match be defeating Don Budge of United States by Fred Perry defeated United States Don Budge 2–6, 6–2, 8–6, 1–6, 10–8.
